Forced to stand outside in the cold, the heat, the wind, the rain and the public to puff their cigarettes, Lincoln's smokers have always opposed the ban.

Last week, I was sitting on a blanket at Jazz in June enjoying the nice weather, friends and a little background music. With thousands of people milling about, it's easy to tune out the crowd. But when two people wearing "Decline to Sign" t-shirts showed up, the affirmative action debate reached my little blanket.

There's an arresting moment in "WALL-E" where we're given a view of the earth from outer space.

I don't know how else to say it: "The Happening" is absolutely, from start to finish, a disaster. And I am a fan of M. Night Shyamalan. I loved "The Sixth Sense" and "Signs," and I've never been afraid to defend "The Village." However, "The Happening" is so ridiculous and poorly made, it's as if an entirely different director made it.
