Switching servers causes website woes

When the GCCC website went down many wondered if weather was to blame, but that wasn't the case. On Jan. 28th at around 4:45 p.m., the website for GCCC stopped working.
Andy Gough, software specialist for GCCC said the snow had nothing to do with it. The website suffered problems because it had to be moved to a new server. The website was functional at 9 a.m. on Friday morning and he does not expect problems in the future.
While some didn't notice the website being down, it caused problems for others.
The website being down did not bother Janice Urie, tutor coordinator for CLC,
"I didn't know it went down until I got back this morning and had all the e-mails telling me it was back up," Urie said.
Jordan Partin, freshman, also did not notice that the website was down, but said she thought the weather was to blame.
"I suppose it was probably the weather cause there was a bunch of places that didn't have electricity yesterday too," Partin said.
However many students were affected by the event.
"Nobody could get any of their work done last night. This morning we had two classes that came in, had to leave - cancel classes - cause the Internet was down," said Kathy Winter, library secretary and assistant.
She did not think it was the weather because everything else worked.
Roberto Diaz tried to get a study guide off of blackboard to study for a test today.
"It was asking for a password so I don't know if someone put a password on it," Diaz said.
His wife also ran into problems when she was trying to write a paper.
Paramedic instructor, Bill Young, noticed the website was down around 7:00 on the 28th when he tried to put notes on blackboard.
"[Students] weren't able to access it. I wouldn't say they actually suffered because the material they've got the deadline is still probably another four or five days away."
